What Are YOU Going To Do?

What Will You Do Sign

Despair.

That is my initial response when I watch the news or scroll through my Facebook feed. The latest source of despair has been the strong of mass shootings. These have been very difficult to see. Beyond the shooting, however, I see the increasingly polarized blaming for the shootings that seems to make our country more and more angry by the day. This makes the problem far worse.

The growing trends of polarization and ineptness in communication around the big issues of our day are what push me into despair. I simply do not see how the trajectory can change.

I repeatedly ask myself, what can I do to make a difference in this mess?

Jesus has spoken into my despair. I believe Jesus has revealed His calling on my life to me. He has revealed my purpose… my reason for living. I have a personal vision of catalyzing 50 Disciple-Making Movements in 50 cities by the year 2040. It is what DRIVES me.

I will turn 73 that year. If successful, that effort would help over 1 Million people become more loving, joyful, at peace, patient, kind, gentle, and self-controlled. That effort would also lead those 1 Million people to discover their own calling, which makes them part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

So far, about 3000 people have been transformed by Disciples Made. Some of those disciples are helping people with disabilities find and maintain meaningful employment. Some are leading the battle to put an end to the scourge of sex-trafficking. Some are providing birthday parties for those who can’t provide their own.

All are doing something.

That is what I am going to do about it.

What about you?
